![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I sat down to explore that image as a freewriting exercise, which started as a paragraph and eventually snowballed into an entire book. At the time, I’d recently moved far from Maryland, where I was born and raised. That infused the book with a wistful longing for home, while my new surroundings in Texas provided the atmospheric inspiration of open space and sparseness. It flowed very organically-more organically than anything else I'd ever written-because I think it was the story I needed at the time. The horror.
